Well well well, looks like Rihanna has landed herself a new gig. Earlier this morning on Instagram (duh, where else would Rih break news?), Bad Gal announced that she's the face of Balmain's Spring/Summer 2014 campaign, delivering the deets and giving us the first look in one fell swoop.
The ads, which were shot by Inez and Vinoodh and styled by Rihanna's go-to guy, Mel Ottenberg, feature colorfully dressed Rih set against a monochromatic, tiled background. A steam room minus the steam, it would appear—more high fashion than I've ever found in a steam room, but Rihanna hangs out in more luxurious places than I do, so maybe wearing a j'outfit with gold-chain stripes is the norm in saunas of the rich and famous? IDK.

In the second campaign photo, Rihanna is pictured in a baby-pink houndstooth jacket and skirt (a very modern power suit), a blingy gold belt, and gold-capped lace booties. The ads also feature a Rih hairstyle we have yet to see IRL: a wavy, asymmetrical bob. Her face is almost entirely shrouded by her "bangs," which bring to mind every sullen teen you've ever had the pleasure of eating dinner with, but it's Rihanna, so the face-covering hair looks glamorous instead of super annoying.
Oliver Rousteing, Balmain's creative director and Rihanna's BFF, has been posting behind-the-scenes photos to his Instagram and is clearly very excited to work with Rih, dropping "#dreamsdocometrue" all over the place. Rousteing told WWD that Rihanna is the woman "that inspires [him]," and now, thanks to these ads, his "vision feels complete." Way to go, RiRi! Whether there are more images to come or if Rih will work with Balmain again remains to be seen, but considering how excited both are about the partnership, we're crossing our fingers that we'll see more from the duo!
